LIMIT YOUR DIP
Dip the bristles into less than
1
inch of paint. Cleanup will
be easier, and you’ll have better
control over the paint.
CLEAN IMMEDIATELY
Don’t soak your brush.
Wash away latex paint
under warm, running water. For
oil-base paints, swish the brush in
a cup of paint thinner.
3
COMB AND DRY
Drag a paintbrush comb
(less than
$10
at paint
and hardware stores) through the
bristles to remove any remaining
paint. Hang the brush to dry using
the hole in the handle.
GO UNDERCOVER
The cardboard cover your
paintbrush came in is the
best choice for keeping its shape
while stored.

Strive to keep the
ferrule—the metal
band that secures
the filaments to the
handle—as paint-free
and dry as possible.
Dried paint and
moisture under the
ferrule can damage
bristles over time.
